The preparation process, structure and magnetic properties of the electroless deposition Fe-B alloy film with rare earth joined were studied. The pretreatment process and optimum formulation process of electroless deposition Fe-B-RE alloys film were designed and tested using perpenpular method. The samples were prepared. The structure and micromorphology were observed. The electrochemical behavior of the bath and magnetic properties of the film were measured. La and Ce were added to electroless deposition Fe-B alloy film. Their mechanism of action and influence mode on the process, structure and properties of Fe-B alloy film were discussed in order to obtain the electroless deposition alloy film with excellent semihard magnetic properties. The results showed that the bonding force between the film and the substrate is better after the substrate dealed with the pretreatment of sensitization and activation compared to that without pretreatment. The rare earth elements were added to bath, the stability of it increases obviously, which increases the deposition rate and improves the film quality especially for the substrate with sensitization and activation. The rare earth elements change the electrochemical behavior of the base, improve its capability of cathode polarization, decrease the nucleation energy of deposition and increase the nucleation rate leading to fine and compact crystalline, which lead to higher coercitive force(Hc) of the film. The film has good semihard magnetic properties with high coercitive force, certain saturated magnetization(Ms) and permeability(μ), somewhat remanent magnetization(Mr). The initial permeability(μ0) of the alloy film raises greatly when the substrate dealed with sensitization and activation. The La and Ce were added to the film leads to higher coercitive force, which can make more excellent semihard magnetic properties film.
