The densities of binary solutions of N,N-dimethylformamide-water at 298.05 K and 303.15 K were measured with a oscillating-tube densimeter to determine excess molar volumes, partial molar volumes of dimethylformamide and apparent molar volumes of dimethylformamide. The densities of ternary solutions of L-phenylglycinol- N,N-dimethylformamide-water were also measured at 303.15 K to determine the apparent molar volumes of L-phenylglycinol, limiting partial molar volumes of L-phenylglycinol and the transfer partial molar volumes of L-phenylglycinol from N, N-dimethylformamide to N, N-dimethylformamide-water mixtures. These volume properties were interpreted in terms of water-structure model and solvent effect in the mixtures.
