Based on the characteristics of heat transfer in HICON/H2 furnace, a mathematical model was proposed to calculate the annealing process, together with heat transfer theory and hydromechanics. Then an intelligent control system of annealing process in HICON/H2 furnace was developed by using Visual Basic in the mathematical model. After importing the dimension parameters and physical properties of rolling coils, fuel and annealing furnace, the temperature distribution of steel coils in the whole annealing process was achieved. Furthermore, the annealing curves of the coils and the temperature evolution of hydrogen and inner cover, close relative to the temperature of coils, was calculated in the system. The numerical results had a good agreement with the Austrian platform.In addition, this paper finely analyzed the parameters which had great effect on the heat transfer on the heat transfer in the furnace. Circulation of the safety atmosphere in the inner cover was studied to provide accurate boundary conditions for calculating the temperature field of the coils. Two parameters, the convection heat transfer coefficient and the equivalent radial thermal conductivity, which were important to heat transfer in HICON/H2 furnace also was studied. Through the contrast studies in different atmosphere, it was shown that the use of HICON/H2 annealing technology can enhance the heat conduction inside steel coils and improve the heat transfer conditions outside the coils. The circulation flux of annealing atmosphere gas was optimized by using the control system. By means of substantial numerical calculation, the frequency conversion circulation flux was proved the optimum value of circulation flux.Besides, the impact of steel coil and fuel parameters on annealing process was also analyzed. The results showed that the annealing time of steel coil prolonged with the increase of width and weight of plates. The research on two wildly-used fuel revealed that natural gas was the proper choice. However, the following factors should also be considered in choosing fuel: enterprise management, gas consumption cost and product price.
