With the development of Internet technology, as well as the urgent need for research and development of magnesium alloys, an enterprise-class database for magnesium alloys which can achieve data dynamic query and update is designed. In this system,the user can increase the usage of data, which is a powerful tool to cut down the cost and time for developing new magnesium alloys. But there are quite few even no magnesium information in some of the material database which has been set up at home, which inhibits the research and development of magnesium alloys. A data-rich Web-based database of the magnesium alloys is very necessary.On the basic of overall collecting magnesium alloys correlation datum, this paper followed the web database system development program IIS+ASP+ADO+SQL Server 2000, Various functions of the system have been achieved at the same time , and some efforts have been done to optimize and improve the system.Firstly, this paper analysed the old magnesium alloy data in previous database. it was showed that standard, patent, and multimedia data such as Phase diagram, microstructure photos of magnesium alloys have not included. Additionally, the data are aging and the source is unclear. Based on the characteristics of magnesium,a series of work such as correction, supplement, marking have been takenSecondly, the query modules of the old system were researched. By using ASP technology and DreamWeaver FrontPage, an integrated query system of magnesium alloy database was developed to meet the demands of more users. The result showed that the query efficiency of the magnesium alloy database was improved, especially for query of the phase diagram and structure of magnesium alloys. The magnesium alloy database performance optimization program was discussed. The result showed that a reasonable inquiry mode and data storage form as well as index played a key role in improving the performance of the database.Finally, this paper evaluated the function of the system and discussed the future prospects of system function. The research work showed that the system was fast and convenient to be maintained, and had good portability. But the system still have some deficiency, which need to be solved in Further development.
