Protozoa has an indicative function to water pollution, and it can reflect the water pollution status objectively, so it has been widely studied in the pollution monitoring of natural water and reservoir and wastewater treatment plants. It is important to gain relevant information of protozoa quickly to evaluation of the degree of water pollution and control of water pollution. On the other hand, morphologic complication and species diversity made the species identification be very professional thing. It is not convenient to gain information of protozoa because we must get them from many reference books. In this article, in addition to some text and image information of protozoa from relative books, periodical and internet, the national criteria were selected as data resource to create the database, query system. The system is released on the Internet.and it is very convenient for researchers, environmental workers and students to gain protozoa information by it.This system was built up through ASP of Microsoft, Access2000 that is a background database and VB language which is program language of background management system. From the system, relevant information of Protozoa might be obtained quickly and easily through many searching methods via Internet. There are resource sharing and protozoa forum in the system, which are suitable for the users to upload protozoa information not included in the database and to intercommunicate it via Internet. Meanwhile there is the input, maintenance and output of protozoa's information function in the background management system. Here, the scheme, realization of the information query system was introduced.Compared with the databases on protozoa in China and foreign countries, its characteristics were:1 . It can reflect protozoa's living habitThe system can search protozoa's living habit and relation with water pollution, so through the searching results of protozoa species, we can know of the condition of water quality of water. It provides much convenience to monitor and treat with water pollution. This system also reflects the research information of protozoa in water in China, through which users can search information of some protozoa appeared in water pollution treatment plant.2 . Versatile searching paths(1) Classification browsing. Users can search some relevant information of Protozoa species and their taxonomy (phylum, class, order, etc) according to protozoa classify system. It can also seek relevant information of Protozoa of others belong to the same kind.(2) Searching by classification. Relevant information of all protozoa species belonged to one classification could be founded through classification name.(3) A single characteristic searching and integrated characteristic searching. According to some features of protozoa, you can search all protozoons that have something to do with this characteristic information through this system. Also, external morphology, interior structure, living habit and polluted status could be integrated to get more precise information by which you can identify protozoa species.(4) Bidirectional searching. Searching process could be from higher to lower classification element, or the adverse direction.(5) Chinese searching. This system can search the protozoon information from Chinese, which can't do by domestic ptotozoa information system at present.3. Wide applicationThis system could be used not only in searching the information of protozoa, but in other species(algae, bateria, higher plants and animals etc ) if some source codes of it is changed.
