As a solvent of THNP and residual oil from Tahe refinery, respectively, the direct liquefaction technology properties of coal samples from Kuche and both the two solvents and ratios of CO:H2 affecting on temperature as well as pressure were investigated in atmosphere of pure H2, carbon monoxide and synthesis gas plusing vapour, respectively, by means of orthogonal experiment and single-factor methods. In addition, the products were analyzed by GC-MS, IR and XRD. Results indicated that:①the coal samples have a good liquefaction performance. As a solvent of THNP, the oil yield was 58.9%, conversion 87.0%, and pressure ending 12.4MPa when initial hydrogen pressure was 6MPa, ratio of solvent to coal 1.5:1, reaction time 75 minutes, and reaction temperature 430℃;②in atmosphere of synthesis gas plusing vapour, using bimetal catalysts of Fe + Cu, increasing ratio of solvent to coal to 2:1, oil yield was reached 51.0%,conversion 80.8%, and pressure ending 15.9MPa, which meant that it was possible to replace pure H2 with synthesis gas plusing vapour;③in initial hydrogen pressure 7MPa, 10%H2O, oil yield decreased to 56.7%, conversion 79.7%,and pressure ending increased to 14.1 MPa, because residual oil was coked seriously. This residual oil was not better to co-liquefy with the coal. Moreover, the residual oil has great influence on reacting temperature rising;④as a solvent of THNP, most of produced oils were middle and heavy oils, and fraction (BP≤300℃) contains hydrocarbons of monocyclic and dicyclic, and saturated long chain hydrocarbons mainly. Liquefaction residual contains alkane, aromatics, and oxydant (alcohol, phenol or ether). Gas phase does not affect form of catalysts, and adding Fe and S will obtain effective compounds of Fe1-xS or Fe7S8.
