The activated carbon is a kind of sorbent with abundant porosity and high adsorption capability. It is made from carbon raw material and can be produced through physical or chemical activation methods. Incinerated medical waste will pollute aquatic system and soil system because of its poor degradability. So using it as the raw material of preparing activated carbon would have great significance to the secondary-treating of incinerated medical waste and the extending of material for activated carbon. This article proposes a chemically activated method to utilize the Incinerated medical waste to make up activated carbon. The optimal operating conditions were determined through experiments. The kinds of activation agent, the ratio of activation and material, the activation temperature, the activation time, the heating speed were chosen as factors. BET area, TG-DTA, FT IR and UV detect were used to evaluate the performance of the activated carbon. The activated carbons are prepared using different activating agents. The optimum preparation conditions corresponding to KOH used as activating agent are KOH/incinerated medical wastes 3:1, heating speed 5℃/min, activation temperature 800℃with activation time 1 hour. The basic capability of sample are methylene blue capacity 24~28 ml/0.1g, the iodine capacity 965~1150 mg/g, and BET Surface Area 985.1634~1387.4586 m~2/gThe equilibrium time of sample in the methylorange dye wastewater is 20 min. When the equilibrium concentration is 4.2 mg/L, the saturated adsorption quantity is 95 mg/g. The experimental data on the adsorption equilibrium isotherm can be fitted well by the Langmuir isotherm equation, better than Freundlich; The rate control of absorption is film diffusion, pseudo second order kinetics equation could describe the absorb process correctly. The equilibrium time of sample in the methyl blue, basic fuchsin and Acid Fuchsine were 20 min, 1.5 min and 10 min respectively. The temperature and the pH affect the absorb process faintly; the sample had a excellent absorption effect to the chroma and the typical waste of practical wastewater which had complicated composition.
