Poly(aryl ether)s containing phthalazinone moieties,a series of novel high-performance engineering plastics developed by our team,have much better heat resistance and solubility than similar high performance polymers,therefore,have a strong competitive capability in international market:However,the pure resin's viscosity is too high to process.In order to expand its applications,Polyetheretherketone(PEEK) was blended with PPESK and PPBES to improve their processabilities and properties.Furthermore,short glass fiber reinforced PPESK/PEEK composites were prepared.The PPESK/PEEK blends with different proportions were prepared with melt-extruding method.Their miscibility and thermal properties were investigated by DSC,SEM and TGA. The results show that the blends with low content level of PEEK are compatible,and are partially miscible while PEEK content increases to 30%.PEEK rich phase shows continuity in the wide composition ranges of PEEK.And thermogravimetic analysis shows that the heat resistance of the blends tend to increase with addition of PEEK.The processabilities of the blends were characterized by the extruding current and exit pressure,respectively.The results show that the melting processabilities are improved with the addition of PEEK.And the flexural properties and impact strength of the blends are improved with the addition of PEEK, while the tensile strength at high temperature of PEEK is improved by mixing to PPESK.The short glass fiber(GF) reinforced PPESK/PEEK(7:3) based composites were prepared also by melt-extruding.The interface,morphology,mechanical properties and the length of short fiber were investigated by the means of SEM,ignition and so on.The results show that the main content of the interface layer is PPESK;the average length of short fibers is about 100~tm,the length of short fibers approximates normal distribution.The tensile strength at high temperature,flexural properties and impact strength are improved with the addition of GF.When the GF content reachs a high level,the tensile strength at room temperature decreases with further increasing GF content.The PPBES/PEEK blends with different proportions were prepared with same method by two screw extruder.Their miscibility and phase behavior were investigated by DSC,SEM and density with buoyancy test.The results indicate that the blends are partially miscible,and show a co-continuous phase structure in the wide composition ranges of PEEK from 20%~60%.Their processabilities and the heat resistance were also investigated by TGA,the extruding current and exit pressure,respectively.It shows that their melting processabilities and the heat resistance are improved with the addition of PEEK.And the same as above,their flexural properties are improved with the addition of PEEK,while the tensile strength at high temperature of PEEK is improved by mixing with PPBES.However,the impact strength of the blends is slightly lower than the strength of the two pure resins.
