The rapid development of technologies, especially Computer Graphic, Database, Network, Multi-media, three-dimensional Simulation and Virtual Reality technology , greatly promote the development of GIS. 3DGIS is becoming an important trend of GIS. But 3DGIS cannot replace 2DGIS completely, because of the reason that it has limitation on technology and some defect of itself. The best way is the integration of 2DGIS and 3DGIS. Analysis and inquiry about two-dimensional information can be performed in 2DGIS. And the search of the three-dimensional information can be performed in 3DGIS. The integration of 2DGIS and 3DGIS can combine the advantage of 2DGIS -accurately choose object and pick point, macrocosm character, macro field of vision character, concise character and the advantage of 3DGIS-vivid vision effect, unprecedented man-machine interaction, dynamic character, realistic character, director character ,resolve the limitation of 2DGIS and 3DGIS.The research work of this paper is directed at the two-dimensional and three-dimensional information inquiry in GIS. The basic way is to develop a 2DGIS system based on MapX component; design and realize one prototype 3DGIS system; put forward the methods of dynamic mutual response mechanism between 2D and 3DGIS and accomplish some thoughts. During the course of research, the author has finished the flowingly jobs:1 Develop a 2DGIS system based on MapX component, finish the basic function of the GIS system.2 Present a Data Structure used in 3D virtual scene, and accomplish the data structure using object-oriented thoughts. 3 Design the arithmetic that can obtain three-dimensional space data from VRML file, and store the data into database. Three-dimensional display module can use the data to construct three- dimensional virtual scene.4 Present the R-Tree index mechanism of object in order to speed up the operation of inquiry and analysis in 3DGIS.5 Put forward the mutual response mechanism between 2D and 3DGIS, and accomplish the mutual response of the information inquire and the mutual control of the viewpoint.6 Accomplish a"Oilfield Community Information Systems in GIS"based on MapX, VC++ and OpenGL technology.
