Metal-organic coordination polymers based on carboxylate ligands have diverse topology structures and potential applications in the areas of optical, electronic, magnetic and catalytic properties. In this paper, we choose 1-adamantaneacetic acid 1,3-adamantanediacetic acid and metal ions to synthesized a series of 1D,2D,3D coordination polymers by hydrothermal synthesis methods. They have been characterized by elemental analyses, IR, TG and single crystal X-ray diffractions. Some complexes are further studied by magnetism and fluorescence. This thesis covers the following parts:1. Three complexes are hydrothermal synthesized from 1-adamantaneacetic acid (H2L1), 2,2'-bipy or 4,4'-bipy, namely [Zn2L41]n (1), [MnL21(4,4'-bipy)(H2O)2]n·2n(HL1)(2) and MnL21(2,2'-bipy)(H2O)2 (3). Complex 1 is 1D chain structure. 2 and 3 are further joined to superamolecular architecture through hydrogen bond.2. After design and synthesis of a new ligand, 1,3-adamantanediacetic acid (H2L2), based on H2L1, 10 new complexes are obtained, namely [Mn(L2)(H2O)2]n (4), [Cd(L2)(H2O)2]n (5), [Co(L2)(H2O)2]n (6), [Zn(L2)(H2O)]n·nH2O (7), [CdL2(2,2'-bipy)]n·nH2O (8), [CdL2(2,2'-bipy)(H2O)]n·4nH2O (9), [CoL2(bpp)]n (10), [MnL2(4,4'-bipy)]n·0.25nH2L2·0.5nH2O (11), [Mn3L22(HL2)2(phen)2]n (12), [Cd2L22(bpp)2]n (13). Complex 4, 5 and 6 are allomerisms with 1D chain structure and 3D supramolecular network formed by hydrogen bonds; Complex 7, 8, 10 are 1D double chain while 9 is single chain structure; Complex 11 and 12 are expanded by the interlude of 2D 44 plane which formed by the bridging mode of carboxyl; Complex 13 is built from the interlinking lamellars, in which CdⅡions are six- and seven-coordinated and linked by 1,3-adamantanediacetic acid ligands resulting in right-and left-handed helical chains. The layers are stacked with each other via bpp to generate a 3D architecture.3. Complexes have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR, thermal stabilities and element analyses. And some of complexes are also characterized by electrochemistry, photoluminescence, magnetic properties. The electrochemical behavior of complexes 2 and 3 were studied by cyclic voltammetry, indicating that the electron transfers in the electrode reaction are irreversible; Complexes 8 and 13 exhibit intense purple luminescence at room temperature. Variable temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements reveal the existence of weak antiferromagnetic interactions in complexes 10 and 11.
