This thesis is science and technology cooperation project of mechanical engineering Institute and Wu Xi steel ball factory. This paper make an intensive study on the problems of hard-grinding procedure, and bring out the optimum design for hard-grinding procedure.Firstly, based on the investigation and research on the Production Status ,and surveying and charting on the ball grinding machine in Wu Xi steel ball factory, the paper analyze balling-up mechanism of hard-grinding, and find the ball grinding machine's faults on mechanism of machining and mechanical construction. Secondly, in order to solve the problems of ball grinding machine on the mechanism of machining, this paper bring out improving plans which make a groove on a fixed disk, and the paper indicate that symmetrical groove hardly improve the spherical precision of steel ball, and Asymmetric groove can significantly improve spherical precision but it has poor stability by the method of building kinematic model for hard-grinding of steel ball. Thirdly, this paper bring out the plans of taper-grinding wheel, find it can improve the spherical precision, grinding efficiency of steel ball, and realize energy-saving in the range of taper-grinding wheel's angles from -20°to 20°. Lastly, in order to solve the problems of ball grinding machine on the mechanical construction, this paper do the optimized design for main transmission system, feed system, supplying system, and so on.In a word, the research achieve eventually the purpose of improving machining precision and efficiency, and energy-saving.
