Study On Paulownia Furniture Design Based On Their Material Wood Properties And Characteristics

The Paulownia is one of the important cultivated tree species for the short-cycle-oriented timber uses in our country,but it is also a better material in light soft wood lumber in China,Paulowniais widely used in furniture manufacturing.Based on the analysis of characteristics of paulownia,the structures of traditional furniture as well as the stability,strength,durability and the joint strength among components of cabinet furniture are made of paulownia,this thesis puts forward a detachable non-glue dovetail furniture design,which would be a certain guiding role to the development and manufacturing of Paulownia furniture.The results of research also provide reference for the development and manufacturing of other artificial fast-growing wood, as well as for the structural strength of solid wood furniture design.1) Paulownia wood properties were analyzed systematically:paulownia has a lighter color and a smooth,orderly,natural grain;it is easy to be bleached so that it can be dyed as man-made mahogany and man-made ebony,etc;because it has no special odor,it can be made into furniture for various uses;it can absorb ultraviolet rays,while reflect infrared rays,so eye fatigue can be greatly reduced;it has a higher strength weight ratio, so it is suitable to some uses which require lighter wood with relatively higher intensity; it has a good sense which is fit to human body;it has low shrinkage;it is good at wetting and unwetting,can automatically adjust to the indoor humidity;it has good sound absorption and insulation,and can balance the overall space sound environment;it has good processability and is good material for furniture manufacturing.Due to the paulownia's features of loose texture,low power of gripping nails and liable erosion by metals,the linkages are unfit among the furniture parts and components.Thus assembling and disassembling structure can be attempted.2) An analysis of the structure of the traditional furniture has conclusions as following:traditional Paulownia furniture has mortise types,extremely complex structure, and it is unable to maintain the requirements for furniture design in the material, structure,processing technology,product distribution in accordance with needs in modern society,advanced production equipment,advanced technology,which is not conducive to the maintenance and recycling.3) When the new structure of paulownia furniture is designed,panels or frameworks are used in furniture parts manufacturing,such as timber frame batten plate and timber frame panel:connecting frame among parts can be frame or plate.Even all kinds of plug-in structures can be considered to manufacture furniture which is assembled from parts and components and can be repeated without the demolition and installation of furniture connector disassembly.And among parts that traditional mortise joints and a small amount of nail joint,connector joint,glue joint can be used.4) Test of the stability,strength and durability of non-detachable structure furniture with and without glued dovetails.Compression perpendicular to grain timber member of non-detachable structure furniture with glued dovetails is only influenced by the tensile strength of the general part of the inclination angle,bonding strength of layers and strength of anti-extrusion of tenons.Compression perpendicular to grain timber member of detachable structure furniture without glued dovetails is only influenced by the tensile strength of the general part of the inclination angle and strength of anti-extrusion of tenons.Through the analysis it can be proved that non-detachable structure is able to satisfy the basic use of furniture.Paulownia case furniture can use detachable structure with non-glued dovetails for design and manufacturing.
