Shearer is the main equipment of the mechanized mining operation, beause long-term under the poor working environment, the frequency of occurrence of failure is high, so it is very significant to develop effective fault diagnosis method. In this paper, the specific research is carried out around shearer electrical, mechanical fault diagnosis.Frequency converter is an important part of electrical traction shearer. This paper has developed fault diagnosis system for shearer frequency converter based on LabVIEW, by applying advanced developed platform LabVIEW. The hardware structure and the software design has been presented in detail and the system has realized the function of alarm and diagnosis,when converter happened the fault. It also achieved the function of data storing, consulting,and so on.This paper has analysised fault diagnosis theory and common fault of the gears and rolling bearings. The charactistic of the main fault signals of the gears and rolling bearings, fault diagnosis system for shearer based on virtual instrument is developed, this paper realizeds the basic function of the fault analysis of gears and rolling bearings,and complishs the experimental verification of shearer gears and rolling bearings. Experimental method and hardware constitution are also introduced.The system software has characters of expansibility, modularization. Users may define function of instruments according to individual demand. If improvement of system is required, users may add or modify software. Compared to the traditional fault diagnosis system, It has a strong advantage.
