Cathode material is the main part composition of the pot, which affects the pot life and pot energy consumption directly. This paper based on the production technical situation of AOSTAR and take the cathode energy-saving and environmental protection during the reduction as the study purpose, mainly and systematically studies the pot life affected by cathode carbon block absorbs natrium, bath and metal penetrates into the cathode carbon block to bring about chemical corrosion, meanwhile, studies the conductive ability and anti-infiltrated of the cathode material as well as the harm and dealing with method for the waste cathode., And develop cathode small-scale industrialized test for high graphite and graphitized cathode carbon block and reaches the following conclusions:1) comparing to the common cathode material, graphitized cathode is well conductive, which is obviously good for reducing pot bottom voltage drop. The industrial application shows the pot voltage can reduce 80-100mv averagely and have obvious economic benefits.2) Internal heat is an intractable problem for large-scale pre-baked cell since many years. The study shows it can effectively solve internal heat problem by adoption the graphitized cathode, and reduce the possibility of pot side leakage to greatly prolong the pot life and decrease the pot overhaul cost3) Compared with the semi- graphite cathode and high- graphite cathode, the graphitized cathode can distinctly resist the corrosion of natrium and penetration of liquid bath and metal.4) comparing to the other cathode material, graphitized cathode absorbs less fluoride, so it is easier to handle the waste cathode. At the same time, it reduces the environmental pollution by the waste cathode carbon block, environmental efficiency is obvious.5) Using graphitized cathode can reduce the metal level properly and lower the difficulty of site operation. Moreover, it is good for optimizing the pot technical condition.
