Single point incremental forming is a new sheet metal forming technolngy and a flexible forming technology. The technology is based on"layered manufacturing"the ider of the rapid prototype technology, which do not need die, or just need a simple die. According to the shape of the parts, the NC program is designed to control the tool in accordance with a certain trajectory gradually forming in the sheet metal, eventually to be the needed shape. And it can easily change the shape of products by modfying the numerial product to adjust the tool trajectory. Its flexible characteristics of the technology is particularly suitable for new product development stage of forming sheet metal parts, which can greatly shorten the product development cycle and reduce develpment costs and risks, to adapt to changing market needs. Therefore, the study of single point incremental forming technology has great significance.In this paper, it is established that the finite element model of single point incremental forming based on NC processing. And develop a program which can compile the tool work trajectory, so that it will be convenient to load the complex trajectory of the tool in numerical simulation. The process of single point incremental forming is investigated based on the dynamic FEM analysis under the ABAQUS/Explicit software environment. According to the numerical simulation, the stress, strain and thickness distribution of forming process are analysed, as well as the characteristic of strain changes in whole process, and revealed the characteristic of sheet metal forming in single point incremental forming. The correctness of numerial simulation results is verified by experiment. Using numerial simulation metheod, the influence of two technological parmeters, vertical steps and tool head diameter, on single point incremental forming process is analysed, and influence of the trajectory of different points screw-down and different layer directions are also discussed. These results could be referenced to choose the technological parameters and processing path in single point incremental forming process.The effect area of tool in forming process is analysed, it put forward the idea of the local area analysis. It give a new way of comput speed raise and cost save.
