In recent years, the medium-thick steel plate production has gradually increased, and the rolling shear equipment has increased dramatically. In addition, with the improvement of the plate cut quality, the shear performance of the rolling shear equipment was proposed higher requirements. Compared to traditional inclined blade shear, rolling shear is an advanced medium-thick steel plate shearing machine which has advantages in quality and efficiency. However, most of the domestic technologies of the rolling shear production were introduced from abroad. The foreign technical protection and less domestic research on the rolling shear theory, has hampered our country's rolling shear device independent research and development process. Therefore, it is significant to research the theory of rolling shear and to propose relevant design approach for rolling shear mechanism.In this paper, it was summed up that there were three technological action related to the design of rolling shear mechanism and pointed out that the pure rolling cutting was the most important action by analyzing the technological action of the rolling shear. Rolling shear mechanism design includes single-freedom and double-freedom rolling shear mechanism.For single-freedom rolling shear mechanism, the typical mechanism was four-bar mechanism which achieved on the planar motion of the cutting edge by the connecting rod. In this paper, the four-bar rolling shear mechanism sizes were designed through the method of position synthesis of upper shear blade. The pure rolling movement of the upper shear blade was through a series positions to be guaranteed, and the essence of this design method is the problem of four-bar mechanism approximate position synthesis. The article made a full hinged four-bar linkage mechanism approximate position synthesis as an example, and solved the four-bar shear mechanism size design mathematical model.For double-freedom rolling shear mechanism, it is difficult to use the method of position synthesis of four-bar mechanism as the method to design. A design method of double-freedom rolling shear mechanism size which based on the mechanism centrode is proposed in the paper, and the essence of this design method is the problem of mechanism centrode path synthesis which is been solved using optimization method. The optimization design mathematical model of the rolling shear mechanism whose objective function is based on the error between centrode and shear blade is been built. Finally, an example illustrated that the design method based on the centrode could realize the pure rolling cutting very well, and the shearing quality was improved.The design method of rolling shear mechanism in this paper is general, and can be extended to a series of similar products design. It can improve the design efficiency and quality of the rolling shear, and it is significant for our country's rolling shear device independent research and development.
