Rolling shear is an important equipment for shearing the middle or thick plates, and issuccessively used in many iron and steel production enterprises due to its high shearingquality, less energy consumption and high efficiency. The mechanism of this kind of rollingshear is composed of link mechanism, which is used to control the roll-cut motion of circulararc top blade, so that the shearing of steel plate can be realized. The key point that the rollingshear differing from other shearing machines is its shearing character which is approximatelypure rolling. So, this paper studies the optimization of rolling shear mechanism. As to topknife block is one of the important parts of rolling shear. In order to utilize material fully, thispaper also studies the topology optimization of the top knife block.The main contents are as follows:(1) The structure and composition of the rolling shear mechanism are analyzed, themathematical model of the rolling shear mechanism is built. Some parameters of position andthe length of some rods are defined as the design variables. Shear angle and mechanismconfiguration are defined as the constraint condition. The objective function is establishedbased on the pure rolling principle. The programming and calculation about the optimizationof rolling shear mechanism will be realized with the random direction method based onMATLAB language, and finally the optimal solution will be obtained;(2) According to parameters of the optimal solution, the critical parts of the rolling shearare established with PROE, then the shearing force is calculated and the working conditionsare defined. By dynamic static analysis of top knife block, constraining force on each hinge oftop knife block are obtained, thereby the method of establishing constraint is decided. Then,the working condition and the analysis of the top knife block are realized by HyperWorks.(3) The topology optimization of top knife block with the object minimization of the strainenergy is realized by variable density method. According to the results of the topologyoptimization, the structure improvement, the strength verification and date comparison of thetop knife block are finished finally.Through the work above, rolling shear do a much purer rolling shear than before itsoptimization when rolling shearing. The property of top knife block is improved, the mass oftop knife block is reduced and the material is utilized fully under the condition thatrequirement of strength is promised.
