The electrical-treatment agent and process for ECDP fiber and the electrostatic flocking process were investigated in this paper. The structures and properties of ECDP fiber and PET fiber were studied by X-ray diffraction, FTIR spectrum analysis, mechanical property test, moisture regain test and electrical conductivity test. The results showed that ECDP fiber was lower than PET fiber in crystallinity, consequently the tenacity and initial modulus of ECDP fiber were lower, while the elongation was higher. Due to the additional of sulfonic acid in ECDP fiber, the hydrophile group—COOH caused higher moisture absorption and electric conductivity. The moisture regain of ECDP fiber was 2.42%, and the specific resistance was 8.47×1011Ω·cm.The electrical treatment agent for ECDP fiber was obtained based on the properties of ECDP fiber and experiments, including 6 % antistatic agent, 6 % aluminum potassium sulfate, 2 % sodium silicate, 6 % softener, 1 % dispersant 1W, 2 % acetic acid, 1 % penetrant JFC. The properties of ECDP flock after electrical treatment were tested. The results showed that after treated at temperature of 60℃and bath ratio of 1:40 for 30 min, the fibers could be successfully applied to electrostatic flocking.Influencing factors of flock density were discussed theoretically. Corona discharge and polarization charge were the main methods for flock charging. In the case of corona discharge, the lifting speed of flock would increase when the voltage and humidity of fiber increased. However, it would decrease if the voltage was too high, due to the induced charge. While in the case of polarization charge, enhancing the electric conductivity or reducing the specific resistance of flock could increase the lifting speed, thus the flock density and flock fastness would enhance, and the quality of flocking fabrics would improve.Flocks behaved in two ways in the electrostatic field, either translation or rotation. According to the translation of flock, the lifting speed of flock was related to the electrical field intensity, the coefficient of air resistance and the electrical quantity of flock. Among them, the electrical field intensity had the most important affect on the quality of flock fabric. The flock fastness increased with enhancing of the electric field intensity. But if the electrical field intensity is too high, the flock fastness would decrease because of the discharge of flock. According to the rotation of flock, the quality of flock fabric was affected by the flock time and the electrode distance. The speed of flock increased when extending the flock time and decreasing the electrode distance. However, the vertical orientation of flock would be affected when the electrode distance was too small. The effects of induced voltage, flock time, and the electrode distance on flock density were discussed respectively. The experimental results showed that the flock density increased with the increase of induced voltage and flock time, while decreased with the increase of electrode distance. The orthogonal experimental results showed that all the three parameters had significant effect on the flock density, among which the electrode distance was the most important one. And the most qualified flock technique would be obtained when the induced voltage is 60kV, the electrode distance is 10cm and the flock time is 14s.
