Spindle tape drive or belt drive is the mainstream for traditional two-for-one twister in the past or even in the near future. There're so many inherent shortcomings, such as low efficiency, unbearable noise, low quality, etc., that it will be replaced by a more advanced technology sooner or later. As far back as 2003, some insiders suggest electric spindle drive system of two-for-one twister, as it makes use of a small motor to direct drive spindle, there're no more problems mentioned above caused by belt drive. In this paper, a driver of a new generation of BLDCM is designed, and the electric spindle drive system of two-for-one twister is also realized based on the motor driver.Firstly, the principles of operation and the structure features of the new generation of BLDCM are discussed.Secondly, the mathematical models are set up and the mechanical properties and torque pulsation are calculated. Theory analysis and part of experiment results proved that the mechanical properties and torque pulsation characteristics are much better than the traditional three-phase BLDCM.Thirdly, the drive ciruit of new generation of BLDCM is designed and the control strategies are discussed. The effects on the torque ripples induced by the PWM methods are discussed and PWM0N is proposed as it makes the lowest torque ripples than the other PWM methods. And the merits and faults of different brake technologies are studied.Finally, the electric spindle drive system for two-for-one twister based on CAN-bus is designed. And the CAN-based application layer protocol of two-for-one twister is designed.
