NC machining simulation has become more and more widely used along with the NC technology's development. The inspection on the accuracy and rationality of the NC program through the simulation of the machining process by the computer not can only reduce the product development cycle and the production cost, also to be able to improve the product quality and the production efficiency.The analysis and research on the geometry modeling of the simulation aimed at the problems about the real-time exigent and third dimension strong of the turning machining simulation, and the exploitation of the NC turning machining simulation antitype system based on Open Inventor have been achieved in this paper through the collection and reading a lot of relevant data and papers.Construction of the 3D entity geometry models of the chuck by Hybrid Modeling which combined CSG with B-rep; construction of the cutting tools'geometry models by the parametric method, and exploitation of the cutting tools database for the background database server with Microsoft SQL Server 2000; construction of the workpiece roughcast model by the SoWin in Open Inventor, and constitution of the virtual machining entironment of the simulation system have been achieved based on the study of the feature of 3D entity simulation and NC turning machining. First if all, foundation of the dynamic relation of the machine parts, then realized the real-time simulation of the NC turning machining process through the boolean minus operation method of the workpiece and the tools sweep object, and the method of hollow column cell and the technology which combined part-refurbish technology with double-buffer in the virtual machining entironment.The design and exploitation of the NC turning machining simulation system, the realization of the real-time simulation of the machining process, and finally the testing of the system by an example have been achieved in this paper based on Windows XP, Visual C++.NET and Open Inventor.
