Polysulfonamide (PSA) fiber is a new flame-retardant fiber which has excellent heat resistance, thermal stability and thermal oxidation, it is developed by China independently, but the fiber has high VSR(volume specific resistance) and initial modulus, instability of crimp and low friction coefficient of the fiber, which contribute to many troubles in its process of spinning, weaving and dyeing, and also limits the applications of PSA fiber.In this paper, according to the outstanding problems the PSA spinning process and considering the influence of the fiber length on the yarn properties, on the basis of the full use of PSA fiber's excellent high temperature performance and flame retardant properties, we find the Spinning fiber length required for optimum, to provide a theoretical basis and practical programs for the further application of PSA.1.To determine the best concentration of anti-static finish.At first pretreated PSA fiber with anti-static finish because of its high static. The concentrations we chose were: 0%, 3%, 5%, 7%.2. To determine several kinds of PSA fiber lengths. Made PSA filament shorter by the cutting and stretch-breaking way and contrasted the yarn properties to choose a better way. Also PSA fiber was spun on the cotton-type spinning equipment, so five different kinds of lengths chosen were 31mm , 38mm, 45mm, 52mm, 59mm. The yarns of different lengths had the different critical twist factor, selected the tex twist factor:318.78,332.64.346.5,360.36,374.22.3. To determine the spinning program. Compared the yarn properties of different length fiber under their own critical twist factor, including yarn tensile properties, evenness, and yarn hairiness.4. The yarns of five lengths fiber under their critical twist factor were woven and tested. In order to facilitate comparison, polysulfonamide fabric texture were basket weave, warp density×weft density is 240×220 yarns/ 10cm. The fabric tensile properties, tearing propertie sand permeability were tested. Researched effect of polysulfonamide fiber length on its fabric performance.5. To further validate the reliability of the experiment. Chose three kinds of fiber lengths( 30mm, 40mm, 50mm) to do the above experiment again.Through both experimental study and theoretical analysis, the results show that:1. Polysulfonamide fiber pre-treatment, pretreated PSA fiber with a certain anti-static finish, found that experimental results is the best when the concentration was 3%.2. To determine the critical twist factor of the different length PSA fiber yarn, the breaking strength of yarn increased while the twist factor increased and the yarn hairiness reduced, but exceed the critical twist factor, the strength decreased, also a slight increase in hairiness. Yarn evenness had little relationship with the twist factor, it did not change significantly, the critical tex twist factor of different length fiber yarns (31mm. 38mm. 45mm, 52mm,59mm) were 346.50,346.50,360.36,360.36,346.50, respectively.3.Through the different PSA fiber length spinning experiments .We found: while the count is setting, tensile properties of PSA yarn is increasing when the fiber length increasing, and, hairiness reduced; but exceeding a certain length, the tensile properties will decrease, and hairiness will increase; yarn unevenness changes a little when fiber length is among 31mm~52mm, but if the length is too long(>59mm),the yarn levelness is Obviously deteriorated. The best length of fiber is 50mm~52mm, meanwhile, breaking strength of 48 tex yarn is 19.390 cN / tex, yarn uneven rate is 12.25%,and the yarn hairiness index (> 3mm) is 13.06.4.Polysulfonamide fabrics of the five different fiber length yarns were woven and test, the results showed that: the fabric performance variation is similar to the yarn propertes. Fiber length of 52mm fabric properties include tensile and tear strength are better than the others.5. During verification test, used the fibers length of 30mm, 40mm, 50mm to do experiment again, the results is similar to the above experiment.
