The cutting gap compensation (tool compensation) function in machine processing is the important module of CNC system. It includes the design of the tool path, the compensation of tool geometric parameters and the logic processing. In consequence, grasping the methods of cutting tool compensation rationally, utilizing the tool compensation flexibly and setting the data for tool compensation perfectly are the important factors to guarantee the high accuracy and stabled equality.In this paper, we described the development history of CNC flame cutting machine technology, the dynamic research at home and abroad, and the development trend of the future. According to the situation of the researches, we designed CNC system programmer to achieve tool compensation function and the design method is testified with programming procedure which is wrote in Visual C++on the Windows flat roof by simulating the process. This article includes the following three parts:First, this paper uses the plane analytic geometry to solve the problems of the tool compensation of CNC system. In order to design and implement tool compensation conveniently, it also uses trigonometric functions to deduce the computing formula of intersection between two directed geometric elements, such as two lines, line and circle and two circles.Second, analyse principles of tool length compensation and settings of the offset parameters. It also discusses the resemblance and difference between tool length compensation and tool radius compensation.Third, designing and stimulating the tool radius compensation in CNC system. The tool radius compensation capabilities of the system enable the programmer to specify that a tool should travel to the right or left of an open or closed contour in the composed plane of arcs and straight line segments. The key of the tool radius compensation method is to make sure the relationship between the programming tools coordinates and the required point coordinates. On the base of depiction of basic conception of compensation and the type of compensation, this thesis describes the common tool radius compensation algorithms of the CNC system, and uses the plane analytic geometry method and C tool compensation to design the tool radius compensation.
