Lead and lead oxide are wildly used as X-ray shielding materials. These materials with the shortcomings of toxicity, weak X-ray absorption area and strong scattering of low energy X-ray have been gradually replaced by new lead-free materials. In this issue, different rare earth elements materials are selected in reasonable proportion and blended with thermoplastic polyurethane to prepare the new X-ray shielding material. The new composite has a lower density than lead material and outstanding shielding property, meanwhile, it is recyclable and easily processed.Determine appropriate formula and processing technology of the new shielding material in the experiment.. Stearic acid was chosen to promote the dispersion of rare earth filling, and to improve the mechanical properties of the composites. Then make a thorough study of effects of SA on the material. Define the optimum SA modification process and amount. To further improve mechanical strength of the composite material, three other different methods have been studied, and co-coagulating rubber latex and rare earth method was chosen at last. Finally, the combination of hot roll and single-screw was used to achieve the requirements of industrial production, while the thermal aging and recovery of performance of the composite are studied.
