The copolymer High Density Polyethylene grafted maleic acid (HDPE-g-MAH) was prepared by reactive extruding method and solution method, respectively. This copolymer was used as a compatibilizer of blends of ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) and polycarbonate (PC). The melting blend method was employed to prepare the composites, UHMWPE/HDPE-g-MAH/PCThe best content of dicumyl peroxide (DCP) and maleic acid (MAH), the optimal process conditions were discussed in this paper. The FTIR was used to investigate the Compatibilization mechanism of the blend. Then, effects of compatibilizer HDPE-g-MAH and PC on mechanical properties, morphological structure, crystallization properties and thermal properties of the blends were studied. The results show that the addition of HDPE-g-MAH can improve the compatibilization of the system, and the tensile strength was remarkably enhanced. When the content of PC was 20 portions, the content of HDPE-g-MAH was 15 portions, the tensile strength had reached a maximum of 105.70Mpa, which was enhanced by 354.62% compared with the one of the pure UHMWPE. The grafting ratio of HDPE-g-MAH also affected the compatibility of the system, the greater the grafting rate, the better compatibilization. The vicat softening point reached 135.80℃, which was increased by 9.34℃compared with the pure UHMWPE. Moreover, further measurement via DSC showed that the crystallinity and crystallization rate of compatibilized blend was reduced.
