As the price of energy rises constantly, the high energy-consuming iron and steel industries undertake more market competition pressure. Sintering is the main process in iron and steel industry and its energy consumption accounts for 10%~15% of the total ferrous metallurgy energy consumption. Because sintering industry has the enormous potential for energy saving, it is of great practical significance to the entire iron and steel industry to improve the level of control in sintering industry, to accomplish the scientific and rational energy management and to reduce the energy consumption for sintering process. This paper studied on the sintering process of a domestic iron and steel plant. An energy management system of sintering process of iron and steel production was developed with the application of sintering theory, computer science, modern control theory, artificial intelligence and management science. This system can concentration supervisory control and manage the batching system of sintering, mixing and feeding system, power system, dynamic system (gas or thermal) and water system. Furthermore, the energy data collection, process control, medium energy consumption analysis, overall process of energy management can be achieved automatically, efficiently and scientifically. With the combination of management, production and use, the overall level of energy management can be improved and the energy saving can be realized. Results and conclusion of this article shows in following:1. Through thermal equilibrium and calculation, heat income and outcome in the sinter agglomeration process are highly evaluated. Main reasons for energy consumption are obtained to provide the data for energy administration software.2. Air leakage coefficient measurement and calculation of the sintering machine and circulating cooling machine were carried out. Air leak area in the sintering process was discovered and certain solutions were applied to reduce the air leakage coefficient.3. Optimizations of energy flow, mass flow and heat flux flow model were studied. By applying the energy consumption e-p analysis method, analysis model for these models were established.4. Applying Relation Model n the SQL 2005 DATABASE, specific database for this article was established with these parameters which significantly affect the energy flow and mass flow in the sintering process5. Energy administration software was developed with five main modules:user administration, energy administration, data manipulation, system maintenance and help. Automatic adjustments of energy administration in the sintering process can be applied by users using these five modules in the software.
