With the development of automobile industry, much higher properties of friction material are required. Reinforcement has an important influence on the friction and wear behavior as the structure material. Potassium titanate whiskers and sodium titanate whiskers have good mechanical and chemical properties, widely used in plastics, metals, ceramics, especially as reinforcement in friction materials. Furthermore, the whisker reinforced friction material is non-toxic harmless, stable performance, noise-free braking advantages and is considered as the most promising composite friction materials.This subject uses pure resin (No.2123) as agglomerant; the reinforcing fibers contains potassium/sodium titanate whiskers,Kevlar pulp,steel fiber,copper fiber; the fillers contains graphite,Al2O3,Fe2O3,MgO,BaSO4 etc, using dry production process prepare resin-based friction materials, studied the quality of the percentage of two whiskers on properties of friction materials. By means of orthogonal experiment and variance analysis, the influences of different main content to the frictional property are obtained, and the proper proportion of each main content is confirmed. Meanwhile, an annual output of 1 million sets of sodium/potassium titanate whiskers friction materials production line is designed.The subject uses the hydrolysis of silane coupling agent, ethyl acetate and sodium silicate coated SiO2 layer on potassium/sodium titanate whiskers, the layer characterized by SEM, FTIR and XRD. Experiments show that:surface modification whiskers had a better adhesion with organic matrix, which can be better dispersed in the resin; using 1:3 as the mass rate of sodium titanate whiskers to potassium titanate whiskers, the friction material performs a stably friction coefficient and low wear rate; friction material with surface modified Whiskers has a higher friction coefficient, about 0.1-0.3, and wear rate rises more stable with temperature, compared with friction material with non-surface-modified Whiskers, that means the use of surface modified whiskers in friction materials can get better friction and wear properties.Through the analysis of orthogonal experiment results, when compacting pressure 15MPa; heat treatment temperature 200℃, annealing time 100min; surface modified sodium titanate whiskers 4wt.%, surface modified potassium titanate whiskers 12wt.%, phenolic resin 8wt.%, can get high performance of friction material, the friction coefficient is 0.4-0.44 and the wear rate is 0.22-0.80x10-7cm3/N-m. In this subject, the friction material can meet the need of the break property well of the automotive, with sufficient mechanical properties and excellent friction properties, small heat recession, good recovery performance, wear resistance, low noise.The subject of investigation by the friction material production enterprise, production equipment compared to the selection, and the material balance for the economic analysis carried out in accordance with production process and plant layout design of logistics routes and eventually completed the annual output of 1 million sets of sodium/potassium titanate whiskers friction materials production line. The production line put into production, can realize annual output of 1 million sets, and create value 25 million yuan, profit of 7.262 million yuan, profit 29.05%, net profit of 4,865,500 yuan.
