PTW(Potassium Titanate Whiskers)are inorganic synthetic fiber with well mechanicalperformance which often expressed as K2O·nTiO2(wherein n=2,4,6,8) Presently,thepreparation of PTW mainly by solid-state calcination methods and hydrothermal metods.Among them, the solid-state calcination methods have the defect of high energy consumption and complex craft,the quality of their product whiskers with bad quality are usually not easy to be controlled.While the hydrothermal methods are requested harshiy to the equipment(high temperature, high pressure),It's too dangerous or difficult to synthesize the PTW in one step. To reduced energy consumption,we explore some new methods, such as low temperature directly precipitatio (LTDS), low temperature hydrothermal, microwave hydrothermal and low temperature solid phase method.To find out the major factors effecting the structure and appearance of the products, optimizing the response condition and response craft to get good whiskers.To reduce the energy consumption ,we propose the fluid-solid co-usage method to synthesize PTW.It's not only simplificated craft,but also saved the energy consumption.At last,we probe into the influence factors possibly exists in the experiment to prove whether we can synthesize PTW from the liquid phase directly or not and explain the reason. The products structures and morphologies are characterized by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy.The result indicated that in solid-phase method to preparate titanium potassium and whisker, sintering temperature and time of heat preservation product titanium potassium crystal growth have certain effect, high temperature and long time of heat not good to crystal growth . Relatively low temperatures lengthen appropriately holding time is helpful for titanium potassium whisker generation. Fertilizer join can effectively increase the reaction rate, reduce the sintering temperature, and helpful to the crystal growth, but along with the increase of adding amount of additives, is detriment to whisker product generation, general auxiliaries substitutability 5% is advisable. Trials found that six titanium potassium ratio in 900℃place insulation 1h can basic get six titanium potassium, and four titanium potassium ratio,withnot add fertilizer, under the situation of 800℃insulation 1h can get four titanium potassium. But the alkaline excessive against whisker generation, We also found that the size of the raw materials for product generation also have certain effect to the titanium potassium whisker formation, sharp over-mining of titanium dioxide and grinding thin rutile type as raw material and Australian iron ore obviously superior to coarse Australian iron ore.In new methods we found that low temperature directly precipitation obtained product is the titanium potassium before body, after a certain energy field can be converted into the titanium potassium and whisker; Energy field can be conventional thermal, also can be the microwave field; Low temperature hot water, microwave hydrothermal in this research experimental conditions are only get before body.As the reinforcing fibers we currently known , fiber reinforced composites are the most widely used composite materials after glass fibe,carbon fiber and other high-performance reinforced fibers.Whiskers can be used for composite reinforcement friction materials due to their excellent chemical stability, mechanical properties. This paper studies their application in plastics, research focuses on surface modification of whisker reinforcement in plastic properties. Whiskers in plastics applications should not only consider the combination group with the intact plastic, but also take into account that the dispersion of whiskers in plastics is uniform.Only in this way can we reflect the performance of whiskers and the real meaning of the reinforced plastic products.
