In recent years, with the rapid development of industrial ecomomies and technologies, the foundry industry is developing rapidly in our country. As an advanced special foundry technique, the Expendable Pattern Casting process (EPC) has more and more amount of proportion in foundry industry in our country, because of its excellences, as a small amount of investment, taking effect fastly, high properties and high dimesion precision of the castings and so on. EPC has become one of hot points of development in our foundry industry. The design of EPC workshop is one of key technique of EPC. The quality of the design would decide the well development of the EPC plants. Therefore the design of EPC workshop has become one of very important key techniques of EPC.In this paper the parametric design of moulding area of EPC workshop was took as its main study content, in which the purpose is that a set of software system will be designed in which the design of EPC workshop can be achieved in the parameter-driven. The main contents of this paper are follow as:The contents and steps of the design of EPC workshop were established, firstly, according to the user's design information, the productive tact and layout of production line were obtained. And then according to the tact, the selection of production facilities and accessories were determined. Next, the arrangement process of the equipments was achieved by assembly. The two dimensional layouts and three-dimensional diagram of EPC workshop and their equipments were acquired.The secondary development on UG software was made, using existing secondary development method on UG, combining with practical requirement to the design of EPC workshop, A perfecter design procedure on the workshop design may be obtained by second development on UG. Base on the design procedure, the overall design development project of the EPC workshop was offered through the software engineering approach. And taking the design for an annual output of 3,000 tons of EPC casting production line as an example, the application process of the software was given.
