Due to rapid economy development and special geographical location of of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, this region attracted more and more attention by China even the whole world. Particularly, air quality in this region has become the focus issue. In order to provide science proof for air pollution forecasting and improvement in air quality,we research on air quality in this region and the relationship between air quality and meteorological elements in this region. In this paper, we use the datas of air pollution index and the datas of meteorological elements, such as precipitation, temperature and wind speed in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei to analyze spatial distributions of the air pollution index and the meteorological elements with isoline maps.At the same time, we obtained the tendency of meteorological elements and air pollution index with time by trend analysis.Meanwhile, we found the relationship between air pollution index and the meteorological factors and identify the key meteorological factor for air quality through correlation analysis and significant test. In addition, we explored the correlations of air pollution index among different cities in the region. The results showed that the air quality in this region is good as a whole, the rate of good air quality over 60% and the priority pollutant is inhalable particles from 2001 to 2008. Moreover, air pollution index increases along the coast to the inland and forms three high pollution subregions (Beijing, Shijiazhuang and Tianjin) and three low pollution subregions (Qinhuangdao, Zhangjiakou and Hengshui). Meantime, the air pollution index tended to decrease year by year and the air pollution index in spring and winter is higher than that in summer and autumn. In addition, we known that air pollution index is closely related to meteorological elements through correlation analysis on the air pollution index and meteorological factors. Since the meteorological conditions vary in different seasons, consequently, the relationships between air pollution index and meteorological factors such as precipitation, temperature, wind speed and relative humidity become different. It means that the most important meteorological factor that affect air pollution index is different in different seasons. Moreover, according to the correlation analysis among cities in this region, we found that the air quality in different cities would influence each other.
