Continuous miner is the modern mining equipment with good economic and social returns both in the room and pillar mining and the roadway excavation in longwall face. Crawler running device is an important part in continuous miner, it suffers the huge load which directly affectes the work reliability of continuous miner from the wall and the floor during its working process .The development of traditional model is through the type test and industrial test of physical prototype, analyzing the test data and modifying the structure and parameters to acquire the purpose of performance optimization of the developed product. This development model requires a longer research and development time, and also spends a lot of manpower and material resources, resulting in increasing development cost, extending development cycle, profits decrease, and cutting down the market competitive strength. So it is necessary to create a virtual environment which the crawler running device can work in on the computer. The virtual environment can be used to simulation analyse the crawler running device, to lead to reduce development cost and shorten development cycle, while the commodity competitive strength will be improved significantly.In this paper, crawler running device of continuous miner is the research object. First of all, the driving resistance is calculated theoretically based on structure and working principle analysis of crawler running device, the result provides external loads for dynamic simulation of crawler running device. Then, the paper introduces relevant knowledge about the reliability, cites statistics of failure frequency and downtime of continuous miner, and conducts analysis and calculation to find out that crawler running device is a major failure point of continuous miner,reliability analysis should focus on crawler running device. Then, the virtual prototype of crawler running device is established based on multi-body system dynamics theory. The most complex part is to exert contact force in the model building process. Driving wheels, guiding wheels, track rack will have contact force with crawler boards while the walking device running. It is not accurate and actual to impose the numerous contact forces with the usual method. The best selection is the macro in ADAMS. It's very convenient to impose numerous contacts with the cycle syntax of the macro, if necessary, the model can be parameter treated. The three-dimensional model of crawler running device will be imposed constraint, contact force and external load in order to build dynamic simulation model. The paper analyzes and simulates the crawler running device in the four conditions of forward, backward, climbing and turning operation in a virtual environment of ADAMS/View, acquiring some dynamics features of the crawler running device. Finally the paper analyzes the finite element strength and fatigue reliability of driving wheel based on NX Nastran module of UG software, to get the information about stress distribution, deformation and fatigue life of driving wheel.This paper provides a technological base for designing crawler running device of continuous miner by dynamics analysis and fatigue reliability research of crawler running device, and also provides the method for dynamics study of other major crawler running device (such as bulldozers, etc.), there is a practical significance in reducing prototype manufacturing costs in the product development process and Shortening the development cycle.
