The Baotou City is located in west part of The Inner Mongolia Authority Region, which is the biggest industrial city in Inner Mongolia Authority Region and an important industrial base of northwest region in China. In recent years, the industrial structure of the city dominates with mechanical engineering, steel and metallurgy, coalification and high and new-technology industries. Air quality of Baotou City is influenced by industrial pollution and fuel combustion. As a result, many pollutants in the air are characterized by different spatial distributions and time effects. Based on the static environmental monitoring data and automatic monitoring data, the spatial distributions and time effects of dustfall, sulfate, fluorid, nitrogen and inhultant particulates are analyzed in this study, and the comparison is made between the monitoring data and national standards. The study also presents many advices for the air pollution prevention work in Baotou City. The study provides basic data and theoretical according for the environmental management and decision-making, which is of great importance for environmental protection of the Baotou City. The main results of this paper are as follows:1. Analysis about the key industrial sources indicates that the metal industries, non-ferrous metal industries and electric power industries released the most quantities of exhaust gas, sulfur dioxide and soot.2. From 2005 to 2009, the mean values of dustfall in each district are ranked as: Jiuyuan District> Donghe District> Kundulun District> Qingshan District> control point. In 2005, the dustfall contents in the four districts all exceeded the standard levels; In 2006, the dustfall contents in Jiuyuan District and Kundulun District exceeded the standard levels; In 2007, the dustfall contents in Donghe District, Jiuyuan District and Qingshan District exceeded the standard levels; In 2008, the dustfall contents in the four Districts all exceeded the standard levels; In 2009, the dustfall contents in the four Districts are all under the standard levels.3. From 2005 to 2009, the mean values of sulfate in each district are ranked as: Kundulun District>Jiuyuan District=Donghe District> Qingshan District> control point. From 2005 to 2009, the sulfate contents in the four Districts are all under the standard levels.4. From 2005 to 2009, the mean values of fluorid in each district are ranked as: Donghe District> Jiuyuan District> Kundulun District> Qingshan District> control point. From 2005 to 2009, the fluorid contents in the four Districts are all under the standard levels.5. From 2006 to 2008, the mean values of nitrogen dioxide in each district are ranked as:Donghe District> Kundulun District> Qingshan District. From 2006 to 2008, the nitrogen dioxide contents in the three Districts are all under the standard levels.6. From 2006 to 2008, the mean values of inhultant particulates in each district are ranked as:Donghe District> Kundulun District> Qingshan District. From 2006 to 2008, the inhultant particulate contents in the three Districts all exceeded the standard levels.7. Study about the time effects of the pollution in The Baotou City indicates that: From 2005 to 2009, the dustfall contents in The Baotou City are all characterized as high value in the same period from March to June and from November to December; The sulfate contents in The Baotou City are all characterized as high value in the same period from January to April and from November to December; The fluorid contents in The Baotou City are all characterized as high value in summer and autumn.8. The trends of air pollutions are as follows:From 2005 to 2009, the dustfall contents are falling as a whole; The sulfate contents are falling as a whole too; The fluorid shows no changes in this period; Except from the Qingshan District, the nitrogen dioxide contents are falling as a whole from 2006 to 2008; The inhultant particulate contents are falling as a whole from 2006 to 2008;...
