RMS(Reconfigurable Manufacturing System) represents the development orientation of advanced manufacturing industry as well as the market demand characterized by multi-variety while small-batch of products. RMT(Reconfigurable Machine Tool) is one of the core equipment of RMS. However, there haven't been any proven design methods of RMT and RMS by now. In this paper, the modular reconfigurable design method of RMT and architecture of RMS based on agent technology are studied, with the CNC(Computerized Numerical Control ) intersecting pipe cutting machine as the research object.The modular design method of configuration of reconfigurable intersecting pipe cutting machine is studied in chapter II. This method establishes a topology configuration library for machine in advance with graph theory, and break down the processing task model into a series of basic functions of machine as well as to obtain the movements of machine. The system searches a configuration that matches the movements as the target of reconstruction and combines a series of modules in topology configuration library to complete the reconfiguration task.The design method of RMS based on Agent technology is discussed in chapter III. This paper proposes internal structure of Agent for information flow and module control respectively. It also proposes architecture of the reconfigurable numerical controller, function modules and processes of implementation based on Agent, which lay the theoretical basis for the realization of reconfigurable control systems.Chapter IV of this paper discusses about implementation of reconfigurable intersecting pipe cutting machine CNC system, including hardware composed of industrial motherboard, multi-axis motion control card, digital input and output card and software composed of human-machine interface Agent, CAD interface Agent, reconfigurable Agent and other components compiled by VC. It introduces the core functions (cutting, reconfiguration, control, etc.) in detail.
