The 21st century is an economic globalization era, in this age science and techonology is rapidly developing. In such a background, the development of China has much more high-tech industry as prominent measures to promote economic development and improve quality and efficiency of economic growth. Since the founding of China, metallurgical industry has been a very important position in China's economic development, after half a century, especially since the reform and opening up 30 years, China has become a big country in the iron and steel industry in the world, but not a powerful country, there are also many technical and economical indicators which drop behind developed countries in technology. In the rolling steel enterprises, in order to improve the quality of strip steel and the international competitiveness, it is a necessary to reduce the cost, it is an important material to develop rolling technology and improve the quality of strip steel. The width, thickness, shape control is the basic methods to improve the quality of the strip steel and reduce the cost, therefore, it is the right direction of the rolling steel technological development to focus on solving the problems caused by the width, thickness deviation, and shape factors.The basic purpose of the strip steel width control is to obtain the width which is needed, but it is impossible when the rolling strip steel is thin and cold, so the strip steel control mainly refers to the hot-rolling mill width control. In this paper, the width control of hot-rolling strip steel is the research object, basing on classical rolling theory and combing with artificial intelligence techniques, Its aim is at dealing with the complex problems of hot-rolling strip steel head an tail width control, this resolves the serious problems of the model parameters relying on the traditional experiences which lead to the loss phenomenon of hot-rolling strip steel head and tail width, and improve the level of hot-rolling strip steel width control requirements. At present, hot-rolling width control are commonly achieved by the width press machine and the powerful large vertical rolling mill.In this paper, basing on the hot-rolling short strole control model and genetic algotithm which is stochastic and iterative, etc., genetic algorithm and optimized genetic algorithnm are applied to head and tail the short stroke control of the strip steel, they solve the problem that the strip steel width control precision is not good due to width loss of the hot-rolling strip steel head and tail. Strip steel's head, mainly basing on short-stroke curve of the two broken line model, makes use of genetic algorithm to optimize short-stroke control parameters, and short-stroke optimization control are used three times. The traditional genetic algorithm simulation shows that the optimization control accuracy is not very good, therefore, adaptive genetic algorithm is used to optimize the short-stroke control of stripe steel head, the width control accuracy of strip steel's head is improved through the adaptive genetic algorithm, and the advantage of adaptive genetic algorithm is proposed. While the strip steel's tail makes use of genetic algorithm to optimize short-stroke control parameters basing on four blocks of broken line model, this method reduces the strip steel's tail the amount of the loss of width. Simulation results show that the use of genetic algorithm is more effective to solve the optimization problem of short stoke control than the traditional methods, genetic algorithm provides a theoretical basis and a satisfactory control effect for the selection of the short stoke control parameters, genetic algorithm optimizes the short stroke control parameters and improvs the strip steel width control precision in the end, and reduces the cutting loss of the strip steel head and tail, and improves the products rate.
