A series of new polypyridine ligands were designed and synthesized. In order to improve synthetic method for the synthesis of pyridinium salts, iodine is replaced by bromide and is no longer use pyridine as solvent.This method is high yield, low toxicity and easy to handle. The synthesis ofα,β-unsaturated ketones are disubstituted compound with high chemical selectivity, the highest yield (93.8%). The strategy for the synthesis of 5,6,7,8 - tetrahydroquinoline derivatives was experimented in three solvents and the best result shows in the methanol. These compounds have been characterized by EA, IR, 1HNMR and MS. One compounds:2-(pyridine-2-yl)-4-(pyridine-4-yl)-8-(pyridine-4-ylmethylene)-5,6,7,8-tetrahydroquioine was obtained and characterized by X-ray single crystal diffraction. And the UV absorption and fluorescence properties of compounds in different solvents were studied.With stirring at room temperature, hydrothermal method and other methods, new complexes were synthesized and characterized some of them by IR and UV. A metal complex [Co·(pt)·(NO2)3]·DMF( pt = 4'-(2-pyridyl)-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine ,DMF=N,N-dimethylformamide) was obtained and its single crystal structure was determined by X-ray diffraction. The hydrogen bond and X-H…πstacking action of the compound was analyzed by Mercury and Diamond software. Thermal stability of the complexes was studied and the final pieces adsorbed gases. Electrochemical properties of the complexes was studied. The complex has a pair of redox peaks which is quasi-reversible electrochemical properties. The fluorescence properties of the complexes have been studied and the anions, metal ions have great influence to change the fluorescence properties.A new Schiff bases was synthesized. The compound has been characterized by IR, UV and 1HNMR. A series of metal complexes were synthesized and characterized some of them by UV. The fluorescence properties of the complexes have also been studied.
