Porphyrins are a class of macromolecules of heterocyclic compounds formed by four pyrrolic subunits of a-carbon atoms connected by methylene bridges. The parent compound is porphine, and a substituted porphine is called porphyrin. Porphyrin is a highly conjugated system, and its special structure makes it has broad application prospects in the areas of analysis chemistry, biochemistry and optoelectronics chemistry. The median asymmetric substituted porphyrin because of its special structure also plays an important role in these areas. As the complex structure of the median asymmetric substituted porphyrin, the synthesis methods of that is still the subject which is of great interest to scientists. Among the various synthesis methods, "Adler" method, because of its simply procedure, universal applicability, so the study of it has certain practical and scientific significance. This article contains the following elements:1. The application and synthesis methods of the asymmetric substituted porphyrin were summarized;2. A series of median asymmetric 4-hydroxyphenyl-substituted porphyrins were synthesized by "Adler" method, while a relatively reasonable template and some valuable information about the synthesis and separation of these common porphyrins are provided and products were characterized;3. A series of median asymmetric 2-hydroxyphenyl-substituted porphyrins were synthesized by "Adler" method, a preliminary conclusion of its synthesis and separation methods are given, and products were characterized;4. A series of median asymmetric phenyl-substituted porphyrins are synthesized by"Adler" method, and exploration about the separation of the mixed products was tried, and products were characterized;5. We comparative studied the UV characteristics of a series of substituted porphyrins and expored the change of UV characteristics caused by the initial effect of the substituent.
