The modular fixture is a kind of important flexible fixture of the process equipments for machinery manufacturing, which will help manufacturing enterprises to improve product quality, reduce production costs. At present, many problems are existed in the design and assembly of modular fixture, such as the large amount of resources information of modular fixture, complex structures of the fixtures, flexible layout, poor assembly regularity and the rich experiences of the design of modular fixture accumulated by the enterprises in the long term can not be fully reused, and so on. In view of the above problems, the key contents about the management of modular fixture resources, the expression and application of rules, the design scheme and the assembly technology of modular fixture, and the development of design system has been studied, the details are as follows:1)The resources models of modular fixture for assembly have been established, the modular fixture resources have been classified for storage and management, some rules for design and assembly have been, and the expression, storage and application of the rules have been studied.2)"Rule + Case"hybrid reasoning method has been adopted in the design of modular fixture, and the"Rule + Case"hybrid reasoning model of the modular fixture has been established; In the modification of similar cases, the concept of variation case has been proposed for the modification of similar cases by the case-based reasoning method; Finally, the calculation of the similarity for similar cases has been studied.3)According to the study for the function and the assembly features of modular fixture, the modular fixture object-oriented assembly model based on workpiece has been established; and the assembly coordinate, assembly behaviors and poses of the assembly objects has been studied, finally, the assembly sequence based on workpiece was proposed.4)Based on the object-oriented thought, the Unified Modeling Languag (UML) has been used to establish models for the overall system and each subsystem, which also used for the system analysis and system design; and the modular fixture design system has been developed based on based on the SolidWorks 2007 platform, with the system application interfaces and examples presented.
