At first, the reinforcing effect of common fillers was studied on POE vulcanizates in this paper. The influence of different combinations of curing agents and reinforcing agents (carbon black, silica) on POE were discussed. The content of DCP and reinforcement has significant effect on the mechanical properties and morphology of POE. It shows that the tensile strength of POE vulcanizates can reach 22.4MPa, when the content of carbon black and DCP is 60 phr and 2 phr.Under peroxide curing system, zinc dimethacrylate (ZDMA) powder was filled into POE to prepare POE/zinc methacrylate/peroxide composite system. The experimental results showed that the mechanical properties of the ZDMA reinforced POE vulcanizates depended on the type and amount of peroxide and the amount of ZDMA. It also shows that DCP is more effective then Bis(t-butylperoxy isopropyl)benzene (BIBP), Benzoyl peroxide (BPO). The formulation of DCP 2 phr, and ZDMA 40 phr were recommended for the good mechanical properties of the POE vulcanizates. DSC analysis of POE/ZDMA/DCP compounds and vulcanizates shows that exothermic reaction occurs in peroxide curing system also it indicates that ZDMA is reactive filler. Also, the adding of ZDMA improves the curing degree greatly and also accelerates the curing rate.The method of in-situ is preparing unsaturated carboxylate by their metal oxide (hydroxide) and methacrylate. Different kinds of metallic carboxylate are in situ prepared in POE compound in this paper. After the comparison of mechanical properties of the POE vulcanizates filled by different kinds of metallic carboxylate, it shows that only the unsaturated carboxylate salts withα,βC=C bonds have the effect of reinforcing on POE. MAA with different metal compounds have excellent reinforcing effect on POE. The effect of methacrylate salts by the neutralization reaction of ZnO/MAA, MgO/MAA and Al(OH)3/MAA on the mechanical properties was investigated thoroughly. It shows that the content of peroxide, filler content and the molar ratio of metallic oxide (hydroxide) to MAA have obvious influence on the mechanical properties. The best molar ratio of ZnO and MAA is 0.75, the excess of ZnO can greatly improve the mechanical properties and the tensile strength can reach as high as 42.4MPa while retaining 500% elongation at break. We know that such a high property can't be reached by using common reinforcement such as carbon black and silica. Comparing of ZnO/MAA filled POE with ZDMA powder filled POE by FTIR and SEM, it indicates that the in-situ reparation of ZDMA by ZnO and MAA is successful. At the same time, we find that POE vulcanizates also has good mechanical properties by using carbon black 30 phr and unsaturated carboxylate 20 phr.
