Activated carbon adsorption method is one of the most important advanced treatment methods of industrial wastewater. Thermal regeneration is the main regeneration method of activated carbon in the world at present, but it needs high temperature, and its weight loss and burned loss are serious. Microwave irradiation regeneration is a new method based on thermal regeneration. As an efficient, energy and time saving method, it has powerful advantages and potential of applications.Biochemical method was commonly applied to Chemical pharmaceutical wastewater treatment. Because the kinds of medicine is becoming more and more and the properties of medicine is becoming more and more difficult to be decomposed by photo, oxygen and microbes, pharmaceutical wastewater with complicated composition is more and more difficult to be treated, wastewater after treatment is difficult to meet the discharge standard. Advanced treatment method of pharmaceutical wastewater is very necessary.In this paper, microwave regenerated-activated carbon adsorption method was used to treat pharmaceutical wastewater. Through orthogonal test and single factor test, the influencing factors of microwave power, processing time, sample process capacity on the function recover ratio, regeneration attrition ratio, synthesis restoration ratio of activated carbon were studied with setting the iodine adsorption value as the index. The rules and reasons are analyzed. Treatment effect of pharmaceutical wastewater treated by activated carbon adsorption was studied with setting COD removal rate as the index. The influence of multiple adsorption/regeneration cycles on activated carbon adsorption property was tested. We achieved several conclusions as following:(1) When the weight of activated carbon to be regenerated was 0.8 g, the function recover ratio of the activated carbon at maximum is 99.7% at 648 W of microwave power and 180 s of irradiation time, the synthesis restoration ratio at best is 96.8% at 464 W of microwave power and 180 s of irradiation time. The best condition of activated carbon regeneration is that microwave power is 464 W and irradiation time is 180 s.(2) pH value is the major influencing factor in activated carbon adsorbing organic compounds from pharmaceutical wastewater. COD removal rate of 200 mL wastewater with COD concentration of 347.44 mg/L treatment with 0.3 g activated carbon increased to 48% from 35% when pH value decreased to 2.5 from 5.0.(3) Activated carbon had a good effect of adsorption for pharmaceutical wastewater. After adsorption treatment, COD removal rate at maximum is 78.05%, COD concentration of effluent water which is less than 100 mg/L can meet integrated wastewater discharge standard.(4) Microwave had good effect on regeneration activated carbon. After 6 adsorption/regeneration cycles, the capacity of activated carbon adsorption which is 48.88 mg/g decreased to 64.26% and hold at 64%.
