As a high performance plastics , phenylene sulfide (PPS) has many excellent properties such as thermal resistant, fire retardant, good chemical stability, high mechanical properties, wear resistant and high shape stability. But its disadvantage of poor toughness and low impact strength limited its use in many areas. In this paper, PPS/PES alloy and PTW/PTFE/PPS/PES composites had been prepared by the mechanical blend and compression molding. Friction and wear properties as well as the mechanical properties of PPS composites were studied in the paper. To analyze the mechanism of wear and the dispersion of fillers, the worn surfaces and fracture surfaces of PPS composites were observed by means of scanning electron microscope (SEM).The following conclusions can be drawn from the paper:(1) The experiment and analysis indicates the relative better preparation process parameters on the PPS/PES alloy and PTW/PTFE/PPS/PES composites are that the forming temperature is 320℃, forming pressure 8MPa, soaking time 30min,and the demoulding temperature 80℃. It has been proved that it is possible to prepare PPS/PES alloy and PTW/PTFE/PPS/PES composites by compression molding.(2) The flexural strength, tensile strength and impact strength of PPS was improved by adding PES. As the ratio of PPS and PES is increased to 60/40,the friction coefficient was reduced to the lowest value. With the content of PES increasing, the abrasion loss of PPS/PES alloy was decreased and the wear mechanism is changed from severe adhesive wear and particle abrasion to mild adhesive wear.(3) The Tg of PPS and PES get closed to each other in alloy. It's proved that the alloy system is partialy compatible. The operating temperature of alloy is increased by the adding of PES which increased the Tg and Tm of alloy as well.(4) The flexural strength, tensile strength and impact strength of PPS/PES alloy was improved by adding PTW. The composite has the highest mechanical strength value whenthe PTW content is about 20 wt%. With the adding of PTW, the friction coefficient and abrasion loss of PPS/PES composite was decreased. The composite has the lowest friction coefficient and abrasion loss value with the PTW of 15 wt% content.(5) Friction coefficient and abrasion loss of the PTW/PPS/PES has been decreased by adding 10% PTFE. PTFE could form a special transfer film on the counter face, and the transfer film decreases the friction and abrasion.
