As a kind of Lewis acid catalyst, organotin compound has many merits in catalytic synthesis domain. To explore catalytic activity of the different structural organotin compounds in the esterification reaction, this article used Bu3SnCl, Ph3SnCl, SnCl4 as the outset raw material to synthetise Bu2SnO, (OCOPh)2,Bu3Sn)2O,Bu3SnOCOPh,Ph3SnOH,Ph3SnOCOPh,(Me3SiCH2)2SnCl2,(Me3 SiCH2)3SnCl.The catalytic activity of organotin was studied through the process of synthesis of the benzyl acetate and the butyl propionate. Single factors and orthogonal experiment methods were applied to lay special stress on investigating the effects on benzyl acetate and butyl propionate ester rate by different factors such as the amount of catalyst, reaction temperature, reaction time, molar ratio of acid to alcohol, the water-carrying agent.The experiments showed all of di-and tri-organotin(â…£) compounds had the catalytic activity, and the catalytic activity of Ph3SnCl and (Me3SiCH2)3SnCl was better. When the molar ratio of acetic acid to benzyl alcohols was 2.5:1, the dosage of Ph3SnCl was based on 1.5% of the total mass of benzyl alcohol and acetic acid, the dosage of toluene as the water-carrying agent was 10 mL(the molar ratio of toluene /benzyl alcohols was 0.95), the reaction time was 150min, the yield of benzyl acetate was 97.8%. When the molar ratio of n-butanol to propionic acid was 1.7:1,the dosage of Ph3SnCl was based on 2.0% of the total mass of propionic acid and n-butanol, the dosage of cyclohexane as the water-carrying agent was 10 mL(the molar ratio of cyclohexane/propionic acid was 0.46), the reaction time was 120min, the yield of butyl propionate was 97.3%. When the molar ratio of acetic acid to benzyl alcohols was 3.5:1,the dosage of (Me3SiCH2)3SnCl was based on 2.0% of the total mass of benzyl alcohol and acetic acid, the dosage of toluene as the water-carrying agent was 10 mL(the molar ratio of toluene/benzyl alcohols was 0.95), the reaction time was 210min, the yield of benzyl acetate was 91.5%.The result of the research showed that organotin compounds possessed some advantages of the higher catalytic activity, mild reaction conditions, less use level, no corrosion on the reaction apparatus,and so on. In view of these, organotin compounds will have good prospects in the production of ester perfume.
