Dongting Lake, the second largest freshwater lake of China, which lies in the northern part of Hunan Province, the southern bank of Yangtze River. The water area of the lake is 2,820 square kilometers, the Xiangjiang river, the Zishui, Yuanjiang, Lishui implantation, in the North Chenglingji into the Yangtze River. It is rich of vegetation and economic production, not only provides adequate resources for daily life, but also plays an important role in balance the ecosystem, also is a leading-functional area in flood detention for the Yangtze River midstream.Therefore, Dongting Lake wetland resources management problems is playing an indispensable role in the restoration of the wetland ecosystem and wetland function.This paper relies on the project—" Forest Resources Monitoring System middleware technology research and development"(Item No:2006BAD23B0204-3), focus on applying WebGIS to Dongting Lake wetland resources information-sharing system, conducted a preliminary study on how to establish a relatively sound Dongting Lake wetland resources Information Sharing System.On the history of the Dongting Lake wetland research, and computer network will not be able to combine, so that people fully and directly, anytime, anywhere in the Dongting Lake wetland now understand how the. Wetland management made those achievements, In this'paper the author made some attempts as followings:try to classify for the Dongting Lake wetland resources and establish a database, framework is PHP+LINUX+MYSQL+APACH for the site to map services MAPSERVER as plug-ins, provides a browser-based/server system structure, to achieve spatial data and application sharing and the man-machine communication network management systems. The main content and conclusion of this research is summed up as follows:(1)This research uses MAPERSERVER,which is an open source software, as map plug-in. At present,such systems usually use ArcIMS and other high costs commercial plug-ins.The paper provides an useful exploration for providing a map services using the open source software.(2)This research uses open-source,cross-platform development platform,such as PHP,MYSQL are all of free softwares.To achieve the facilities of low-cost development and cross-platform using.(3)Through the analysis of the system requirements,this research regards software engineering as the guide and designs the technical line,the database design principles,data flow,and the overall structure and function.The system provides geographic information,users distincting,layers zooming,interactive query and so on regarding geospatial databases as the basis,with the support of the computer hardware and software.The research establishes the spatial database of the Dongting Lake wetland resources management project,which can manage the spatial data and attribute data unifiedly.Users can get the corresponding attribute data with clicking a certain point on the map,and also can query graphic location according to attribute data. Users can exchange with the computer through the browser and geographical information systems.
