Textile digital printing is the newest printing technology which applies Ink-jet printing on the textile. Because of the ink having a low viscosity to fit the nozzle and the porous fabric the printing process is easy to produce dot gain. The interaction of ink drop with substrates causes the dot gain and performs with drop spreading and penetration. The drop spreading and penetration are fundamental and competitive aspects of textile ink-jet. In order to control the dot gain and to improve the printing quality we make a study to examine the drop spreading and absorbing into a fabric. This paper applies a new model to study the drop spreading and penetration of the fabric. The model based on energy arguments and is derived by Richard et al used to describe simultaneous spreading and penetration. We combined a simplified permeability model for textile fabrics with this model based on energy arguments for spreading and penetration, and developed a new model to describe the drop spreading and penetration on a thin textile, from the new model we also derive a new expression for the dot gain. We can control the dot gain and improve the textile printing quality through changing the structure measurements or the surface tension of the textile.
