In recent years, global climate change caused by large amounts of greenhouse gas emissions has become the primary problem cared by all countries of the world. In face of the energy and climate crisis situations, the Chinese government has brought a strategic objective of development that by 2020, the CO2 emissions of per unit GDP will drop 40%—45% compared with 2005, and how to reduce carbon emissions is also be put on the important agenda in each company. Because Power industries is one of the main subjects of carbon emissions, to reduce the power industry greenhouse gas emissions plays an important role in controlling the total reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Carbon trading is an opportunity for China's power industries implement energy-saving and emission-reduction. Therefore, when the "low carbon economy" rises and develops, the concepts "Carbon trading", "carbon audit", "carbon footprint" and so on have arisen.This paper forming with the background, through cognitive survey and research, base on a thorough analysis the policies and standards related to the energy-save and lower-consumption in electric power industry, and combining with carbon trading mechanism theory and enterprise greenhouse gas interrogating methodology, explore the basic technology method of carbon footprint analysis in grid enterprises, and use the carbon footprint theory assessing the results of power enterprise energy conservation and emission reduction. The Paper regards the thought climate change—international climate cooperation—carbon trading—carbon audit—energy-saving and emission reduction as the primarily chain, promoting the low carbon development of electricity industry as the guidance, and Carbon footprint of power industry as the research object, explicates the basic connotation, method, and significance of carbon audit, and analyzes the current situation of carbon emissions in power supply and distribution industry, in order to explore how to mining the potential of energy conservation and emission reduction in power supply enterprises using carbon audit. Finally, from the point of view of electric power supervisory institution, the suggestions and policy recommendations on how to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in China's power industry are given.
