The performance, present situation and development trend of latex in redispersible emulsion powders was summarized. According to the characteristics of expanded polystyrene boards adhesive for substrates thermal insulation, comparing various emulsion polymerization approaches, the method of seed emulsion polymerization was taken. Different reaction temperature, feeding process, emulsifier, initiator, reaction time, monomers and different protective colloid were designed and carried out in. The effects on synthesized latex and application performance in adhesive were studied. Through experiment, the optimal technological parameters were given:reactive temperatue was 75℃,reactive time was over 3 hours and the content of seed was 3~5wt% of mixed monomers. Latex for redispersible emulsion powders was given,which latex solid content was 50±1wt%,latex pH was 5±1 and latex viscosity was 100~1000cps. The latex is applicable to the production of the emulsion dry powder spray process. Latex for redispersible emulsion powders was optimized to match the need of expanded polystyrene boards adhesive for substrates thermal insulation. The so optimized latex in redispersible emulsion powders was applied in expanded polystyrene boards adhesive for substrates thermal insulation, the improvement of stretched cohesional strength is superior to that of the overseas products. The above research result will be profitable to the developing of redispersible powders industry in China.
