Lanzhou is a important industrial city in northwest China, the industrial production and its characteristic geographic environment produced terrible air pollution to Lanzhou. The airborne particulate matter, as a major components in air pollution, attract attentions of human being. The component analysis is basis of air quality assessment and source identification. The air particulate matter samples have complex components and small quantity of mass, so both multi-element availability and high sensitivity are required. Therefore, we can't depend on standard chemical method but we can use the nuclear technology. We used the IBA and SR-XRF and compared these two method, we used PESA as a preliminary try in analysis H in airborne particulate matter on membranes. In Jan,2011, we taked airborne particulate matter samples of PM2.5 and PM10 in Chengguan District, Xigu District and Yuzhong country which is located in outskirts of Lanzhou. We assessed the air pollution of Lanzhou by using PIXE analysis and SR-XRF analysis. We found that, the PM10 concentration was more than limited value of level 2. S, Ni, Cr, Zn, Pb are enriched in airborne particulate matter, indicating that pollution from man-made, Ni, Zn, Pb are enriched in PM2.5 easier.
