Asynchronous electric motor, as a kind of important power equipment, is widely used in all walks of life. A malfunction or halt of the motor of a rolling mill pump station would damage not only the motor itself, but also affect the operation of the entire factory pipeline, which would reduce the quality of the products and the production efficiency, and even endanger the personal safety of staff, causing huge economic loss to the enterprise. Through a test of the motor, we can detect motor failure timely, prevent further deterioration of the fault, and reduce the possibility of machine halt caused by accident to reach a maximum production potential of the equipment. Therefore, there is a necessary to develop a fault diagnosis system for a motor of rolling mill.With a situation that the electric motor of rolling mill pump station fails frequently in Zhujiang Steel Limited Liability Company (Zhujiang Steel LLC, Guangzhou), and the diagnosis knowledge of the checking & maintenance staff is limited, this article propose an offline asynchronous motor vibration fault diagnosis system, based on consulting a large number of motor fault diagnosis literature, using the existing test instruments from the company. The proposed fault diagnosis system adopts the case-reasoning technology and the vibration detection methods, which gives several advantages such as lowering the skill level requirement of the motor maintenance staff, realizing the sharing of maintenance experience, and making motor fault diagnosis more scientific and modernized.This article is organized as following:first of all, chapter 1 summarizes the research background and source, and expounds the motor's development history of fault diagnosis, research situation and trends in domestic and abroad. Then, with an introduction of asynchronous motor basic structure, working principle, vibration signal acquisition and common vibration fault forms of basis, chapter 2 summarizes the characteristics and reasons of the vibration fault, and provides a theory basis of motor fault diagnosis. The common fault's spectrum diagrams are shown by simulation in Matlab. Chapter 3 narrates the basic work principle and key technology of case-based reasoning technology. The case based reasoning technology is applied to motor vibration fault diagnosis, and the case retrieval algorithm is improved. Finally, chapter 4 describes the development of the proposed fault diagnosis system using Visual studio.net 2008 integrated development environment and C# programming language, with SQL Server2005 as background data management library, and the system performance is verified with living examples.
