There are rich naphthenic acids in China, which are mainly used to synthesizenaphthenates as coating dryer agents. However, the derivatives are rarely reported, in whichthe naphthenic acid esters have attract more and more attentions due to their potentialapplications in plasticizers, leather fatliquor, synthesized lubricants and fuel additives. Atpresent, most of naphthenic acids have low molecular weight less than 350. However, thereare unique resources of naphthenic acid with high molecular weight larger than 350 inKaramay, Xinjiang. Till now, the related researching is very little. Since their domesticmarket demands have not been developed, their utilization is very limited, leading to seriouswaste in resources. So it is of great theoretical and practical significance to study thesenaphthenic acid with higher molecular weight. In the dissertation, a series esters ofnaphthenic acid are synthesized by the direct esterification based on high-molecular-weightnaphthenic acids from Xinjiang Jinta Investment Corporation. Various factors influencing theesterification are discussed, and the technological conditions for esterification of naphthenicacids with concentrated sulfuric acid as catalyst are optimized, which provides a technicalsupport for deeply processing the unique high-molecular weight naphthenic acid resources inXinjiang. The main conclusions are received.(1) The optimum conditions for synthesizing n-butyl naphthenate are as followings: themolar naphthenic acid/n-butanol ratio is 1:2, the catalyst is 1.5% of the total mass, thereaction temperature is 160℃, the reaction time is 4 hours, and the amount of the agentcarrying water is 50% related to the total mass of naphthenic acid and n-butanol. Under theabove conditions, the esterification degree is up to 92.95%.(2) The optimum conditions for synthesizing n-octyl naphthenate are as followings: the molarnaphthenic acid/n-octanol ratio is 1:2, the catalyst is 0.5% of the total mass, the reaction temperature is 200℃and reaction time is 5.0 hours. Under the above conditions, theesterification degree is 97.66%.(3) The optimum conditions for synthesizing iso-octyl naphthenate are as followings: themolar naphthenic acid/iso-octanol ratio is 1:2, the catalyst is 1.0% of the total mass, thereaction temperature is 190℃and reaction time is 5.0 hours. Under the above conditions, theesterification degree is up to 96.73%.(4) The optimum conditions for synthesizing 2-octyl naphthenate are as followings: the molarnaphthenic acid/2-octanol ratio is 1:2.5, the catalyst is 0.5% of the total mass, the reactiontemperature is 170℃and reaction time is 4.0 hours. Under the above conditions, theesterification degree is up to 90.08%.
