According to study the ecological thoughts of Marx,we want to put forward some ideas for solving environmental problems. This paper, which is divided into three parts, attempts to elaborate the ecological ideas of Marx and their contemporary value. The first chapter traces the social and historical backgrounds that bred Marx's ecological ideas. At Marx's living time, industrial revolution was flourishing. Seeking only to maximize its profits, the capitalistic mode of production exploited natural resources ruthlessly. At the same period, with the developing of natural science, people came to realize that everything in nature is interrelated and develops perpetually. Furthermore, Marx's ecological ideas developed by critically succeeding the old materialism and idealism. All the above sets the foundation for Marx's ecological ideas. The second chapter mainly discusses the connotation of Marx's ecological ideas. Based on historical materialism, they interpret human-nature relation in the light of men as real and sensible human-beings, and make men's integrated development as their highest pursuit. Marx's ecological ideas contend that nature is the existential premise of human race, that practice mediates men and nature, that human-nature relation interrelates with man-to-man relation, and that human activities are regular and purposive, etc. The overview of the contents of Marx's ecological ideas is meant to clarify the ideas, and establish the theoretical foundation for human's practice of comprehending and reforming nature. In the third chapter, Marx's theory of ecology as the point is discussed in details. The result is that Marx's theory of ecology shows important contemporary value. The world as a whole is correlated, and the problem of ecology is the same issues of people need to handle with. Marx's theory of ecology is the way of getting out the global ecological crisis. Our human beings must deal with the relationship between man and nature, which ask us exert conscious activity on the basis of respecting nature. Marx's theory of ecology provides the basis and reality in the construction of socialist harmonious society. Meanwhile, insisting on the scientific outlook on development and the construction of ecological civilization is the practice of Marx's theory of ecology in China. All in all, on consider of the meaning and the point of Marx's theory of ecology, we need to handle the relationship between man and nature on the basis of practice and to build a harmonious development. In the process of solving the global crisis of ecology, we should take Marx's theory of ecology as the guide, and combine Chinese practice with the theory to make contributions for the construction of harmonious society and world.
