Gear is an important part in mechanical transmission. Widely used in machining, transportation, aerospace, chemical, metallurgical and mine works in various fields. With the modernization of the rapid development of advanced manufacturing technology, the manufacturing sector increasingly requires automation. More and more mechanical transmission need to drive smoothly, high-capacity, high reliability and high-precision gears. The accuracy of gears directly impact the machine's work performance and service life. Therefore, the parameters of the gear and the gear tooth inspection is essential for the production part of the manufacturing process.Traditional gear inspection methods have been unable to fully meet the requirements of modern industry. Inspection technology based on machine vision is a non-contact testing method. It uses cameras capture images of detected objects, then digital images will be taken into the computer. Determine algorithms to determine the location shape, size and other information of objects in three dimensions . This method relies on the rigorous scientific theory and modern equipment, unlike traditional touch inspection, have better flexibility, adaptability, precision and reliability. Visual inspection system can improve the flexibility and automation of production, suitable for high-volume production process. This can resolve the manual inspection product quality low efficiency, accuracy is not high, could not real time on-line measurement of shortcomings. The prospects are very broad.According to the feature of gears, a inspection system of gear tooth profile is designed based on machine vision and digital image processing . Specific activities include the following:1,Considering system accuracy, efficiency and economy factors,determine the design of the gear tooth profile visual inspection system, and built system detection platform.2,By crafting a software program preprocessing, preprocessed pretreatment, edge detection, stereo matching, etc, on the gear images to obtain three-dimensional coordinates of tooth surface points. Then judged the tooth profile. The system software is programmed with LabVIEW7.0 and VC++ as the software platform. And it is designed by modular.3,Analyzed gear visual inspection system and debugged system. Logarithmic spiral bevel gear system is carried out experiments and test results are analyzed.Experiments show that this gear visual inspection system is efficiently on all kinds of line complex gears tooth detection. And it has the advantage of high efficiency and less personal errors.
