Milling planer is one kind of important equipment being used in aeronautics and astronautics industries, ship industries and drawing die for automobile covering. To face the challenge of cruel market competition, shortening lead time of product is inevitable selection for machine tool enterprises. Rapid modular schematic design of product can be realized as following: firstly, schematic design of product is completed by variational design with the aids of modular design methodologies and parametric design technologies; then, schematic design of product will be checked and assured after its dynamic and static characteristics are analyzed with the aids of finite element analysis software. In this paper, theories and methodologies of rapid modular schematic design of milling planer are systematically studied, the main results are as follows:1) Methodologies of rapid modular schematic design of milling planer are proposed, and some key technologies are studied, including module partition, series model planning, variational design for complete machine and modules, associated interface modeling, parametric modeling for complete machine and modules, and so on.2) To satisfy the requirements of modular schematic design of milling planer, CAD/CAE integrated methods and realizing technologies are given based on neutral files and APDL files of ANSYS.3) Based on abovementioned theories and methodologies, prototype software system for rapid modular schematic design of milling planer is developed, whose CAD platform is SolidWorks, whose CAE platform is ANSYS, with Visual Basic.NET as development tools. The rationality and feasibility of software are illustrated with specific engineering examples.
